Prayerful Concerns of Our Parish Community: Pentecost

Jun 6, 2022 | Prayers of the Faithful

Each week we share the Prayers of the Faithful from the weekend Masses. We hope you’ll find these intentions to be helpful as you consider your own reflections, prayers, and conversations with God. Below you’ll find the Prayers of the Faithful for Pentecost June 4-5, 2022.

On that first Pentecost, about 120 disciples of Jesus were touched by the Spirit. Today that same Spirit seeks to guide countless communities and people of faith. In that Sprit we are gathered today and pray:

For a healing of, and end to, divisions in the Body of Christ – locally and worldwide. St. Paul teaches there should be no division, that the members who seem weaker are indispensable and all members of the Body should have equal concern for each other. That we may live this way, we pray to the Lord.

Ministry – ordained and other – is for the purpose of equipping all believers for worship and for carrying on the mission of Christ, a work which is entrusted to the whole People of God. We pray that we recognize the gifts of all, men and women, and see our responsibility for the worship and work of our parish community, we pray to the Lord.

For the gift of the Spirit to all who are preparing to give birth to new ideas and ways of being, for comfort to those who are apprehensive, confidence for those preparing for change, and trust in your guidance, we pray to the Lord.

For the gift of wisdom and insight for those making major decisions, that they may be able to see the direction of the Holy Spirit in these decisions, we pray to the Lord.

That the Holy Spirit deepen our faith in the God who is creating us and in Jesus who saves us and invites us on the path of life; root us in the truth, protect us from the temptations of our time, and show us ways to make our world a better, happier and more just place, we pray to the Lord.

For a Spirit-led sense of unity and common purpose in our parish and in the wider Church; as we have received faith through other people, give us words and actions that will help others to believe in you, we pray to the Lord.

That the Spirit protect all those in need today, especially innocent victims, and that, led by the Spirit, we may seek unity with our brothers and sisters in other faith communities, for this is the prayer of the Risen Christ, we pray to the Lord.

That those who have died know the fullness of life promised by Jesus. At this liturgy we especially remember
4:30 PM St. Pius X Robert & Marie O’Connell
7:30 AM St. Joseph For the People of the Parish both Living & Deceased
9:30 AM St. Pius X Dominic Aceto
5:00 PM St. Joseph Jody Rafferty Nappi

We pray to the Lord.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful people and kindle in us your love. Send forth your Spirit to re-create us and renew the face of the earth. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
