Prayerful Concerns of Our Parish Community – Easter Sunday

Apr 2, 2024 | Prayers of the Faithful

Easter Vigil/Sunday Prayers of the Faithful 2024

That the world may know that your holy Son Jesus is not a dead hero we commemorate, but the living Lord we worship and follow, we are gathered now and in the power of the Holy Spirit, we pray:

This Easter we hold before you all those whom Christ calls to follow him: when faith is great and when faith is little; when faith is sure and when faith is weak. We pray to the Lord.

For those who are being Baptized or received into the Church this Easter. For the children of our parish who will be confirmed and receive First Eucharist in a few weeks, we pray to the Lord.

For Pope Francis and other Christian leaders following the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and living a Gospel of God’s mercy. Protect them and continue to guide them. For spiritual leaders everywhere that they may hear and follow the authentic voice of God, we pray to the Lord.

That the name of God may not be used to justify hatred, violence, or prejudice against any human person, for we are all brothers and sisters. That good people be given the courage to stand up against those preaching hatred, bigotry, fear, and discrimination, we pray to the Lord.

For those suffering unjustly, for the abused and abandoned and those living in places or homes of danger. We especially remember the people of Ukraine, Palestine, Gaza, Israel, Haiti, and other suffering places in our world. We pray to the Lord.

For the safety of our natural world, we pray. God, lead us to make the personal and social changes that will protect our Common Home, we pray to the Lord.

God, preserve us from the evil spirit’s whisperings that nothing can change. That we cannot change, That the world cannot change. For this night we celebrate the fact that you have declared that what is, is not inevitable, that change, and new life is possible and is in fact your desire. We pray to the Lord.

For our parish community and St. Brigid, our school. We are grateful for your many blessings this past year. We ask your continued gifts of life, people eager to grow in faith, and the resources we need to fulfill your dream for us. We pray to the Lord.

On this Easter day we pray for all who have died. God, tell them how much we love them and miss them. Tell them we carry their stories in our lives. At this liturgy we especially commend to you:

8:00 PM at St. Joseph:  Anna M. Hight by Maxine Hight

7:30 AM at St. Joseph: Bill Parker by Kathleen O’Connell

9:30 AM at St. Pius X: Barbara Byrne by Chris & Ellen Pirone & Family

9:30 AM at St. Joseph: Alphena Babineau by Kathleen Joyce

We pray to the Lord.

Hear these prayers. Help us to distinguish between truth and lies; help us, God of compassion, to understand where our sisters and brothers are hurting our doubting or hoping; help us to listen with great care for the good news of your love – and then to act on it. Break open our hearts and set your Spirit free. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
