Prayerful Concerns of Our Parish Community – 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jul 8, 2024 | Prayers of the Faithful

We share these prayers from the weekend Masses of July 6&7 with you in hopes that they are helpful for your reflection throughout the week.

Loving God, the Scriptures tell us that some women and men were prophets, they spoke the word you inspired them to say. You are inspiring prophets today as well. Open our ears and hearts so that we may listen to them.

The ancient prophets were often not people of high status or important position. It is likely so today as well. Help us to notice these unlikely heralds of your word. We pray to the Lord.

Jesus’ neighbors and family members could not recognize the gifts in him. They thought they knew all about him. Help us not to overlook the gifts of those among us because, after all, they are ordinary people. Give us insight and wisdom so that we can affirm the gifts in our neighbors. We pray to the Lord.

Most of us find it hard to acknowledge our own gifts and talents. We are apt to minimize them or dismiss them. Grant us the truest form of humility that we can own our gifts gratefully and use them for the good of others as well as ourselves. We pray to the Lord.

God of words and wonderings, we are thankful for insights that show us straight lines are overrated, that logic and reason don’t solve everything, there’s music in the air, for all-sorted conversations; seeds that don’t stay where they are put, friends who encourage walking on air. May we never lose sight of the possibility of transformation and be continually surprised by people who believe in one another. We pray to the Lord.

God, grant us forgiveness when we do not listen to your messages which tell us “love others” or “love ourselves” or “care for this beautiful and fragile planet.” Help us to get the message and live the new life of Jesus in the strength of your Spirit. We pray to the Lord.

Into your hands we commend our love ones. We pray that the prophetic words of eternal life are true for them now and will be for us. At this Liturgy we especially remember

4:30 PM William & Michael Jennings by Family

7:30 AM The People of the Parish, both Living & Deceased

9:30 AM Eugene D. Banks by Sister Cathy & Banks Family

5:00 PM Berlin Castillo by Family

We pray to the Lord.

O Lord, hear these prayers today and those we carry in our hearts. Bless those for whom we have promised to pray and those who need you most. Give us grace in our uncertainties, give us courage to persist in choosing you over and above all else, to keep on risking vulnerable love. We make these prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.
